Etymology
Etymologically via Wikimedia Foundation (2025a-), 鎮 means “to hold down”, “to press down”, “to suppress”; “to calm down”, “to relax”; or “a weight”. 鎮 semantically employs the 金 (metal) radical and phonetically employs 真 (truth, reality, sincerity, naturalness, regular script) radical. 魂 means “mind”, “spirit”, “will”; “a soul”, “a spirit”; or “hun”, “yang energy or spirit”. 魂 semantically employs 鬼 (ghost; evil spirit, demon, ogre; someone of remarkable or diabolical energy or ability, a demon) and phonetically carries the 云 radical (say). 帰 means “to return”, “to come back to”, “to end in”, “to result in”. 帰 is simplified from 歸 which is a compound of 𠂤 (troops; ancient form 師 [troops on a hill]) and 帚 (broom, sweep). Curiously, 帰’s 帚, in bone script is seen by some scholars to evidence 止 (to stop, to cease) and 方 (peripheral groups). 神 means kami, deity, spirit; spirit, soul, mind; expression, countenance, appearance; supernatural, magic, psychic; extraordinary, unbelievable, sublime; smart, clever; godlike, awesome, amazing. 神 is comprised of semantic 示 (causing attention, showing, important) etymologically an altar, and phonetic 申 (humbly speaking, monkey, to repeat; historically 電) etymologically a lightning bolt.
