There are many dōka poems composed by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei, and they are always published in books, the Aikidō Newspaper, and other sources. However, I feel that the dōka reflect subtle differences in Sensei’s state of mind, which changed over the period they were composed. Here, I wish to examine the dōka compiled by Master Abe Seiseki of Suita in Showa 52 (1977), edited into a pre-war section and a post-war section, as well as those compiled in the Spirit of Aikidō published in Heisei 1 (1989) by Ueshiba Kisshomaru, the second Doshu.

Appendix IV: Conflict of Interest (COI) Statement
The main project translator, Latex G.N.R. Space-Coyote, as an uchi-deshi under Mitsugi Saotome, Shihan and had resided at Aikido Shobukan Dojo for approximately a decade. This potentially exhibits a potential conflict of interest in translating under paradigms of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, Saotome Sensei, and perspectives of Aikido Shobukan Dojo’s senior instructors. Additionally, the translator has been raised in compartmentalized life due to parental military/intelligence secrecy, served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps as a contractor, Central Intelligence Agency as a contractor, received transmissions from Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche of Karma Kagyu, and has been trained in psychology, leadership training in psychological leadership programs, and has been biased by leadership training by Lencioni’s frameworks. These represent further potential conflicts of interest in representing generalized applications of the concepts herein.
However, the translation methodology heavily relies on critical translations within the domains of the text as written in forward/backward iterations to/from English/Japanese, relies on established literature, and attempts to alleviate, control for, and eliminate biases from external interpretations, instead relying on the words themselves controls for these conflicts. Reliance on AI platforms for editing, peer review, and additional research has furthered these controls. Therefore, it is quite reasonable to assert that the conflict is minimal, where opinions are reserved to notes attributed to Shugyokai in margin notes and in commentary.
Appreciation
Thanks to Saotome Mitsugi Sensei for allowing me the privilege of a “silent observing” uchi-deshi life for a decade, VIP visitors, Aikido Shobukan Dojo for the privilege of an ascetic environment of countless people to practice with, Patty Saotome’s Aikido Schools of Ueshiba and its mission and peoples, Sensei’s sempai, the great master’s (i.e., O-Sensei’s) and the teachings, Omoto Kyo, the spirit of the great peoples of Japan, the many cultures and teachings these people integrated, and Shinto’s deep mythic roots that accepted this autistic queer rubbery yokai-tengu-tree-man spirit—From Ground Theory‘s (i.e., GT’s) concept to concept sensitivity, from Makoto‘s heart to heart, and a world colliding with a fetish life lived—has now become living truth. The shouts of the eight great power kings, arrived—small shield of a Samuhara spear. This is a dedicated to scholar-warriors of Aikidō, practitioners committed to shugyo, and the benefit of limitless beings of limitless worlds.
Finally, the path of gratitude—toward the body as dojo, toward the heart and soul as a practitioner, toward the world as one and the very source itself—gratitude toward reverence itself is the path.
